Orlando the Bear’s First Christmas

È la vigilia di Natale e nel bosco sono tutti indaffarati. Coniglietta appende le lucine,

It’s Christmas Eve, and everyone in the forest is busy preparing for the holiday. Bunny is hanging lights,

Passerotto porta la legna, Volpe brucia i biscotti (come ogni anno).

Sparrow is collecting wood, and Fox is burning biscuits (as she does every year).

Manca solo Orso Orlando.

But Orlando the Bear is nowhere to be seen.

È arrivato nel bosco da poco e non conosce nessuno. Se ne sta nella sua grotta a guardarsi le zampe.

He has just arrived in the forest and doesn’t know anyone. He sits alone, looking at his paws.

“Che fa un orso solo a Natale?” pensa. “Boh. Mangia miele e conta i fiocchi di neve.”

“What does a bear do alone at Christmas?” he wonders. “Dunno. Eat honey and count snowflakes.”

Ma non quest’anno…

But not this year…

Non se nei paraggi c’è lo Scoiattolo Silvio, noto ficcanaso.

Not with Silvio the Squirrel, a notorious busybody, around.

Saltella da una parte all’altra facendo domande (come sempre).

He hops from place to place, asking questions (as always).

“Dov’è l’orso grande? Quello un po’ imbranato?”

“Where’s the big bear? The clumsy one?”

Nessuno lo sa.

No one knows.

Allora Silvio corre a perdifiato nella foresta.

So Silvio runs around looking for Orlando.

E quando trova Orlando, non gli lascia tempo di dire una parola:

When he appears, Silvio doesn’t give him time to say a word:

“Vieni alla festa di Natale!” esclama.

“Come to the Christmas party!” he exclaims

Orlando diventa rosso. “Ma io… non conosco nessuno…”

Orlando blushes. “But I… I don’t know anyone…”

“Conosci me!” ribatte Silvio.

“You know me!” replies Silvio.

“E poi, se hai freddo, ci sediamo addosso a te. Sei grande abbastanza per tutti!”

And if you’re cold, we’ll all sit on you to keep warm. You’re big enough for all of us!”

Orlando ride e si avvia…

Orlando laughs and sets off…

È la prima volta nel bosco nuovo — ma uno scoiattolo ficcanaso fa Natale!

It’s his first Christmas in his new home — but one nosy squirrel is all it takes!
